Though often criticized for being plain, ordinary or 'vanilla', the so-called Normal-types encompass a vast variety of Pokémon and 'Morphs of all shapes and sizes. On the other hand, they're also known as useful jacks-of-all-trades, and Normal-morphs are quite adaptable. This type is the baseline - commonly considered just average, but highly versatile and rather strong in their own rights. They also tend to be able to learn and manipulate the most different types of elemental attacks than any other single type, and can learn a great many moves from TMs, should they have a way to obtain them.
Much like Fighting-Types, Normal-types are too firmly grounded in the material realm by nature to be able to affect Ghosts with their type of energy (barring some mitigating factor such as a move like Odor Sleuth or the Scrappy ability); though the reverse is also true, as the etherealness of a Ghost-type attack can't make enough contact with a Normal-type to affect them. Otherwise, Pokemorphs with the Normal typing have fairly strong defenses, with only one proper weakness. And though Normal attacks are slightly blunted against the potent defenses of Steel and Rock types, only Ghost is capable of countering the Normal-types. And Normal-typed attacks are, by far, the most common of all.
